Award-winning, design-led communications agency Alpha Kilo continues to expand its portfolio across the art, design, and cultural sectors with the addition of Mono Space, a nonprofit high-fidelity listening gallery in Portland, Oregon, to its roster of clients.

Located in a renovated warehouse in Portland's historic Pearl District, Mono Space is dedicated to the preservation of music culture and the presentation of recorded music as a fine art form. The gallery invites visitors into collective, deep-listening sessions through open gallery hours and specified programming, offering a rare public setting in which recorded music can be experienced with the same attention and reverence traditionally reserved for fine art.

At the center of the experience is a purpose-built analog sound system designed by Devon Turnbull, the New York-based artist and audio engineer known as OJAS. Rooted in mid-century, horn-loaded speaker traditions and the craftsmanship of Japanese DIY audio culture, Turnbull's handmade systems have appeared in institutions including SFMOMA, Cooper Hewitt, and Lisson Gallery. Only a handful of his systems are open to the public anywhere in the world, placing Mono Space within a small, global network of spaces built around his work.

Mono Space's public programming brings together musicians, DJs, and cultural practitioners for album listening sessions, thematic deep-dives, talks, and film screenings that invite close, communal attention to recorded music, past and present. The gallery also houses a growing vinyl collection and a nascent public library, offered as a resource for the city's broader listening culture.

Mono Space is a nonprofit initiative of the Strata Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to nurturing new frameworks for engaging with the arts, and was founded by JD Hooge.

Founded in 2015 by Amanda Kasper and Lauren Busto, with Airbnb as a founding client, Alpha Kilo has built a reputation for representing industry-defining brands, cultural institutions, and creative leaders, including Triennale Milano, Humanscale, Kartell, de Le Cuona, and Bernhardt Design.
