Banana Republic announces a limited-edition collaboration with La Ligne, the New York-based brand known for its joyful approach to stripes, shirting, and modern wardrobe staples. Launched with a campaign starring Zoey Deutch, the 36-piece collection unites the two brands’ distinct aesthetics to bring a fresh perspective on fall classics.
The design premise for the collection centers around functional pieces that can take you anywhere the day takes you and build on the customer’s wardrobe mainstays. La Ligne’s cofounders, Molly Howard, Valerie Macaulay, and Meredith Melling, brought a nostalgia for Banana Republic’s rich heritage to the development process, exploring the vast archives for elements to reinterpret. The resulting pieces offer contemporary proportions and a color palette rooted in autumnal neutrals punctuated with stripes and pops of blue.
"Banana Republic's archives have such a rich design vocabulary, and getting to spend time combing them was a dream for us," said La Ligne's Co-founders. "For this collaboration, we wanted to honor that heritage through a La Ligne lens - our love of stripes and timeless design, our attention to detail, our insistence on quality, and our quest for joy. This collection is really a conversation between two design languages that turned out to have so much in common: a belief in pieces that are classic but never boring, built to move seamlessly through a woman's day."
In every aspect of the collection, there is a fusion of both Banana Republic and La Ligne’s brand codes. References to Banana Republic’s storied archives can be seen in subtle elements, such as the asymmetrical button detail on a fluid viscose shirt dress and t-shirt collars. Meanwhile, La Ligne’s signature stripe language comes through in an array of styles from shirting to sweaters, t-shirts, and accessories. As a subtle wink to La Ligne’s three founders, the number three shows up in three-button cuffs, buckle adjustments, and stripes.
An emphasis on investment-worthy outerwear can be felt in the nubuck barn jacket, belted suede wrap coat, and an oversized cape trench with a removable corduroy collar. With its nipped-in waist and wide-leg trousers, the classic wool suit offers a decidedly modern silhouette. Knitwear, a cornerstone of both brands, appears in chunky cotton sweaters and a cashmere crewneck with an asymmetrical hem and utility tie detail.
“La Ligne has always stood for impeccable style and a distinctly New York sense of ease,” said Meena Anvary, Chief Marketing Officer, Banana Republic. “With this collaboration, we balance our heritage and La Ligne’s sensibility, brought together through a modern lens. The collection is a celebration of our shared design codes and offers a wardrobe of classic pieces that will take you anywhere.”
Actress Zoey Deutch’s wit and style bring the campaign film and photography to life. With her own dynamic career and an unmistakable sartorial point of view, Deutch imbues the collection’s array of everyday classics made for work and beyond with personality.
Set in a classic Tribeca loft with its minimalist, eclectic décor and lived-in charm, the campaign articulates the mission of the collection. With a documentary-inspired feel, the actress changes from look to look in her natural habitat. Photographed and directed by Andrew Jacobs, the campaign distills the collection’s effortless nature, offering a playful view of its multitude of styling options.
