Telluride’s Lumière by Dunton Joins the Prestigious Relais & Châteaux Collection

Lumière by Dunton, the intimate alpine retreat tucked into Telluride’s Mountain Village, has officially joined the prestigious Relais & Châteaux association, becoming one of the newest members of the global collection of independently owned hotels and restaurants celebrated for their commitment to art de vivre, exceptional cuisine, and a deep sense of place.

The recognition places Lumière by Dunton among properties across 65 countries that embody Relais & Châteaux’s dedication to hospitality excellence, cultural authenticity, and environmental stewardship.

“With Dunton Hot Springs already part of Relais & Châteaux, welcoming Lumière by Dunton into the association is a natural extension of our philosophy,” said Edoardo Rossi, Executive Vice President of Dunton. “Both properties reflect our belief in intimate hospitality rooted in extraordinary places, whether deep in the San Juan Mountains or slopeside in the heart of Telluride.”

Set within the dramatic San Juan Mountains, Lumière by Dunton offers a distinctly contemporary take on the alpine retreat: intimate in scale, quietly polished in design, and deeply connected to its surroundings. With just 18 residences, the property feels discovered rather than advertised, offering a calm, residential atmosphere steps from the heart of Mountain Village yet slightly tucked away from its bustle.

In winter, Lumière provides true ski-in/ski-out access to Telluride’s legendary slopes, allowing guests to step directly onto the mountain without the typical resort logistics. During warmer months, the surrounding landscape opens to hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, and festivals that define Telluride’s vibrant summer season.

Unlike traditional hotel rooms, Lumière’s accommodations are spacious contemporary residences designed to feel livable and welcoming. Clean architectural lines are softened by warm textures, open fireplaces, and expansive windows framing sweeping views of the surrounding peaks. The larger penthouses (some with up to five bedrooms) are especially suited for families and groups seeking a private mountain base with the services of a boutique hotel.

At the heart of the property is Dunton Kitchen, one of Telluride’s most distinctive dining experiences. The intimate restaurant focuses on exceptional ingredients and simple yet exquisite dishes inspired by Tyrolean alpine traditions. Seasonal menus, thoughtful wines, and attentive yet unobtrusive service create a warm and authentic dining atmosphere centered around indoor fireplaces and an outdoor terrace overlooking the mountains.

The addition of Lumière by Dunton further strengthens the Dunton’s presence within Relais & Châteaux, joining the brand’s celebrated flagship Dunton Hot Springs, the meticulously restored 19th-century ghost town turned luxury resort in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains.

Within the broader Dunton portfolio, Lumière represents the brand’s contemporary alpine expression, complementing the elemental communal spirit of Dunton Hot Springs, the nature-immersed glamping of Dunton River Camp, the intimate European charm of Dunton Town House in Telluride, the tropical privacy of Pangolin Villa in Mustique, and the forthcoming Highland estate retreat of Kilchoan Estate in Scotland.
