The PR Net 100, 2023: Civic Entertainment Group

Civic Entertainment Group specializes in entertainment and lifestyle publicity, creating brand-defining moments for blue chip brands and also supporting purpose-driven organizations. For example, this year, Civic helped cement Peacock’s leadership position as a streamer with best-in-class comedy programming, and also brought together the power of two clients – New York Road Runners and the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI) – to designate NYRR as the first-ever sporting event to become a safe space. Civic also implemented new capabilities this year, strengthening two core focus areas for the agency: Content & Culture and Brands & Leaders. The former is centered on bringing awareness to culturally disruptive original series, films and podcasts to drive cultural relevance both on and off the entertainment pages; and the latter supports integrated communications driving storytelling, engagement, reputation and awareness.

Explain how your agency is pushing the boundaries of PR and communications by integrating innovative strategies, tools, or technologies to enhance your offerings and benefit your clients.

“With a natural propensity for storytelling, Civic PR has recognized the need to level-up in the face of the ever-changing media landscape. With the rise in popularity of podcasts and long-form media formats, our team has taken a close look at podcasts, understanding not only how to craft a great pitch to secure a guest appearance, but also the anatomy of what makes a must-listen episode. Our keen understanding here has led to clients like Sony Music Entertainment tasking us with media relations for their slate of podcast programming, where we are responsible for pitching and securing press coverage of these podcasts that are actually shaping the news landscape (e.g. Chameleon). This is in addition to us continually pitching our client roster to appropriate podcasts. In turn, our in-depth understanding of this approach to storytelling has expanded to our entire client roster and enabled us to become even better media relations experts across the board.”
