Summer is in full swing, and despite the fact that New York’s winter is way harsher than LA’s, we can all agree on one thing: this is the best time of year for rooftops. From fabulous views to refreshing cocktails, there’s nothing quite like dining and drinking on a sky-high terrace. Not to mention the super chic spots that have opened up in both cities. From Brooklyn to the Hollywood Hills, check these rooftops off your list before the summer ends. 
1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn
One word: views. Yes, every rooftop has them, but the top of the Dumbo waterfront hotel boasts some of the most breathtaking sights of the Manhattan skyline we’ve seen. Once you get your Instagram photo, be sure to indulge in the custom cocktails and delicious bites (mini lobster rolls are the MVP). This stunning venue is the latest from restaurateur Matt Abramcyk, so it’s no surprise it’s one of the summer’s hottest spots.
The Heights at Arlo NoMad, NYC
The Heights at Arlo NoMad takes the whole views thing a step further. The terrace of this chic rooftop features a glass bottom section--not for the faint of heart or heights. Explore the snacks and cocktail list while taking in a unique view of the nearby Empire State Building.
Catch LA
The lush West Hollywood hotspot is an instant favorite. High expectations are always met with amazing dishes and equally fresh cocktails. Dine, drink and enjoy views of downtown LA and the Hollywood Hills (and maybe a celeb or two).
Westlight at William Vale Hotel, Brooklyn
Westlight at the William Vale Hotel is one of Brooklyn’s best rooftop destinations. The cocktail bar, with its panoramic skyline views, features a terrace and a glassed-in lounge. It’s Williamsburg’s top summer spot for cocktails and bites any time of day. 
Filifera Lounge at Hollywood Proper Residences, LA
Up on the 22nd floor of Hollywood Proper Residences, Filifera Lounge is perfect for both day and night. Aside from expertly crafted cocktails and sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills, this rooftop will host live music, film screenings and unique culinary experiences. Designed by Kelly Wearstler, it’s a stunning spot whether you’re inside or out.
The Roof at PUBLIC, NYC
Ian Schrager’s PUBLIC wouldn’t be complete without a rooftop as posh as the hotel itself. The Roof is the perfect place for sunset cocktails as well as a late night out. Expect communal tables, lounge areas and 360-degree views of the city. Check out the Lower East Side terrace before the temps drop.
