How to Find & Retain Great Talent

It's an exciting time for marcomms pros to be on the job market, as top agencies and brands across the country have ramped up on hiring post-pandemic. For hiring managers, however, filling the many open roles available now has been challenging - something we hear about from members more and more often lately. We asked Laura O’Hare, founder of recruitment and HR consulting firm The O’Hare Group, to share her insights on hiring best practices today. Read on for her advice for companies trying to attract and retain great talent.

1. Hybrid work schedules are super important right now. For health and safety, candidates are prioritizing the requirements around being in an office and being able to work from home. More agencies are moving to a hybrid schedule which is an attractive option.

2. Speed up your process. If possible, combine rounds of interviews as opposed to stretching them out over 2 weeks. Candidates are taking jobs quickly so if the interview and vetting process can be shortened, it will be more beneficial.

3. Look at benefits packages. Are you offering “perks?” Does your company give discounts on gym memberships or online classes? Are you open to covering the costs of professional improvement opportunities?

4. PTO is key. Even though everyone is working remotely, days off are now more important. Look at your PTO policy. If there is room to be flexible, do so.

5. Onboarding should be robust and informative – with the fast pace of candidates interviewing and being hired, agencies need to remember that onboarding cannot be rushed. Make sure there is a robust onboarding process in place so new employees are set up to succeed. Learning clients, talking to Senior Management – these are all really helpful and important things to do.
