Events are a significant financial investment, so it’s crucial you capture the highest quality content for social media, newsletters and the like. Trish Varker-Miles, director at TNA, shares her team’s tips for ensuring you get it right every time.

1. Don’t assume your photographer knows what you want. Always provide a written brief.

2. Consider sizing and orientation. If you want your event on social channels, such as Instagram or TikTok, ensure enough photos are oriented vertically. If your event imagery is for newsletters, blogs or websites be surety have enough imagery oriented horizontally.

3. Have enough resources. Hire more than one photographer for events over 100 people.

4. Remember the creative details. Capture the details that showcase the creative elements of the event - the catering, cocktails, entertainment, atmosphere and fashionable details. This content works especially well on social.

5. Hire carefully. Research your photographer, and look at their Instagram and previous work .don’t just hire the cheapest, hire the best for the style of event. Events are significant financial investments and ensuring they are capture correctly for content is vital.
