Advice For Keeping Your Digital Audiences Engaged

Written by Dera Lee, Founder + CEO of Dera Lee Productions

As we prepare for the reopening of live events, we are still seeing a very strong interest in virtual events for the rest of 2021 and 2022. We recently created a 360 virtual experience for SkinCeuticals with the intent to deliver the same level of interaction and excitement as an in person event. So we developed a multi touch point event that featured custom mailers, immersive 3D virtual experience, and an interactive live stream.

Bringing those IRL moments into digital is what we are working towards but also making sure the audience stays connected on a "human" level. Here are some of the steps you can take to make sure that you keep your digital audiences engaged.

The CEO may not be the right presenter

If the CEO isn't engaging, then they are not the right person to speak to your audience. We see this time and time again and unfortunately many brands lose their audience's attention because of this. Choose speakers that help tell your brand's story in an unexpected way. Bring transparency or "real talk". The world has changed radically, and we are tackling the most challenging and vital issues of our time. Look for opportunities where your brand values and your voice can lead to positive change and allow guests to learn exactly what your brand stands for.

Make REALLY good content

The content you create is vital to keeping your audience's attention. If you are developing virtual events, you are now in TV broadcasting. Create visuals between presenters for your audience to engage with such as sizzle videos, pleasing imagery, and transitional animations. Leave money in your budget for a good editor.

Allow your audience to learn on their own time

Many people are experiencing Zoom fatigue as well as still juggling between working and managing kids from home to regular everyday "stress".  Creating 3D virtual environments is a great way to allow your audience to immerse themselves into a brand's world without having them attend a scheduled virtual livestream.  Your guests can take a "virtual trip" and learn everything they need to know through clicking their way through engaging videos, quizzes, and product imagery, all on their own time.
