We are in search of a corporate communications expert with acute knowledge of the public sector and media landscape in British Columbia. This new team member and strategic thinker will lead a number of projects for corporate communications initiatives in key sectors within the province, including natural resources, healthcare, education and housing. A day in the life of the Director, Corporate Communications

Account Strategy and Team Management

- Serve as overarching strategic consult on a portfolio of accounts, supporting associates and managers with day-to-day operations of account work

- Independently manage a portfolio of top-tier accounts. 

- Provide overall strategic direction for corporate communications initiatives for clients- developing smart strategies that support project goals and objectives

- Lead new project onboarding for account teams

- Generate and oversee account strategy - write thoughtful and compelling corporate communications strategies

- Manage monthly and weekly priorities, timelines and client communication

- Adhere to internal and external deadlines, and commitments related to client work 

- Effectively and clearly delegate tasks to internal team members and/or external partners

- Support with drafting, reviewing or editing communications materials, key messages, pitch notes, public relations plans, internal communications copy, thought leadership content, briefing notes, media lists, and media outreach to ensure work meets our clients’ KPIs

- Manage client relationships/communication and ensure client satisfaction

- In the moment problem-solving and proactively address ongoing changes to account needs

- Ensure efficiency/profitability of all accounts

- Serve as quality control and ensure the highest quality work is delivered to clients

- Acute knowledge of core industries in British Columbia, including natural resources, healthcare, and housing. Emphasis on knowledge of the natural resource sector, with experience in mining, forestry, or oil and gas is an asset. 

Team Management & Development

- Oversee team resourcing, including: 

- Make decisions surrounding the assignment of work

- Manage team capacity

- Make decisions around additional resourcing or team needs

- Oversee account transitions as required Team communications

- Serve as point of contact and direct report for Associates and Managers

- Effectively oversee team communications and ensure that all team members are kept informed on team goals, client goals, and company changes

- Oversee and/or lead weekly team communications on division of work, action items and team/client needs

- Ensure that team members are following through with their responsibilities

- Regular management and coaching of team members as needed to ensure they are supported

- Document team issues and provide updates to TS West Leadership team

- Set example of strong leadership and driver of culture for team members

- Review and management of team Scorecards

- Report to TS West Leadership monthly on team KPIs - team capacity, account efficiency, etc.

Requirements:

- 6-8 years of experience in corporate communications

- Confidence in leading client communications - you are a clear communicator and enjoy building relationships with your clients

- Ideal candidate will have experience working in communications or community engagement within the natural resource sector

- Significant experience in the development and writing of corporate communications strategies

- Knowledge of the BC provincial, municipal and federal political and legislative landscape

- Deep relationships in the Vancouver/BC corporate, political and media landscape

- Exceptional creativity – a great eye for a story, and the ability to come up with creative ways to use communications to engage stakeholders

- Excellent writing skills – the ability to weave current events, policy news, trends and data into insightful content for clients

- You enjoy working with a team and lifting others up through training

- Ability to manage priorities and balance deadline-driven workload with complete accuracy

- Strong attention to detail – you take pride in the high-quality, client-ready work you produce

- Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to contribute in a high-performing team environment

Compensation: Salary Range $90,000 - $105,000 (based on experience)

After 3 months of employment, the individual will be entitled to Talk Shop’s comprehensive benefits program, which includes:
