Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Serve as a client-facing media expert, with support of additional team members, as appropriate;
- Execute key client-facing media initiatives, working collaboratively with account services team;
- Serve as a senior leader to account teams with regards to client communications, writing, and media strategy;
- Manage the media relations portion of each clients’ 90-day plans and strategize with account leads and teams to do so effectively and efficiently;
- Build and execute media strategy, utilizing existing contacts, databases, social media competitive research and more;
- Aid in creation of media slides and statistics within quarterly reports for clients;
- Develop media sections of each PR plan, including short-term and long-term strategy;
- Support Media Director set and maintain media department standards and the implement new processes and operational efficiency for the department;
- Identify media priorities for each account and collaborate with the team to update media agenda;
- Secure impactful media placements for clients and ensure team is delivering on client placement goals and KPIs;
- Pitch and secure impactful placements for clients;
- Monitor and report on trends within clients’ industries and make relevant recommendations to the wider media team and agency;
- Monitor and refine media and reporting processes;
- Ideate and propose more efficient and effective processes that will aid the team and the company at large;
- Continuously update media lists to ensure all contacts are relevant, up to date, and able to serve clients’ needs, and create new media lists when clients break into new industries;
- Consistently meet and engage with media professionals to nurture agency ‘friendlies’ database;
- Coach Media Specialists on drafting introductory pitches to new media contacts to expand company reach;
- Draft & review press materials, including but not limited to press releases, pitches, and media advisories;
- Confidently explain, and educate media team on, various media metrics (I.e. including impressions, circulation, ad value, Domain Authority and more);
- Initiate and lead client calls at least once a quarter to update the client on pitching priorities, big wins, current trends, overarching goals/strategy, etc.;
- Appoint and oversee media team members’ ownership of various media projects and initiatives;
- Lead client media training;
- Coach and inspire the growth and development of junior team members by providing consistent feedback, training, and holding accountable to goals and KPI’s;
- Participate in relevant new business presentations, as needed.
- 5+ Years of PR and/or integrated marketing agency experience 1 year of experience in a management role required, 2 years preferred;
- Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, or similar field preferred;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and knowledge of AP Style;
- Self-starter, who can complete tasks with little direction and can independently problem-solve based on a combination of experience and research;
- Displays utmost professionalism internally and externally, with clients, partners, etc.;
- A positive, analytical, and creative mindset to be used in identifying and approach challenges, inefficiencies, and ineffective processes with a solution-oriented mindset;
- A good and active listener, someone who reads people and those in a room well (and adapts their style and response accordingly);
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple client projects and deadlines across teams;
- Is solutions-oriented, recommends solutions when problems arise, assists colleagues in problem solving, and seeks input from colleagues in problem resolution;
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment through flexibility, resilience and a positive outlook;
- Leadership characteristics such as open-mindedness to others’ communications style, viewpoints and opinions; empathy and compassion; being direct and giving feedback with respect and integrity;
- Experience with Cision, Meltwater and/or other journalist databases and reporting tools;
- Proficient at Microsoft Office Suite.
