At Murphy O’Brien, our client relationships are top priority. We’re looking for a dedicated Account Manager to maintain our clients’ accounts and play an important role on the team. They are responsible for effectively balancing seven to nine client accounts while overseeing the work of their junior team members and reporting to upper management. Major responsibilities include pitching and securing media results for all clients, coordinating the team’s overall outreach efforts, assisting in developing strategy and creative campaign suggestions, and connecting with key client contacts. Account Managers must have excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills as well as maintain close relationships with key media and effectively lead others.
Media Relations
Drive and secure consistently strong media results.
Secure high impact regional and national print features as well as pitching broadcast and digital outlets
Follow media outlets important to our clients to uncover contacts and opportunities
Establish and maintain strong relationships with top-tier media and editorial decision makers
Have a proficient understanding of social media outlets and trends; able to advise clients when it’s appropriate to share secured coverage on social media.
Review and edit media lists
Provide guidance to junior team members on their targets, both tactically and strategically, while self-focusing on media that matters most
Social Media
Manage influencer partnerships and contracts
Recommend influencers for relevant PR campaigns
Provide social media extension ideas as part of larger campaigns and brainstorms
Client Relationships
Develop a lasting relationship with daily client contacts
Operate as industry experts, maintain strong industry and competitive knowledge
Provide long-term client retention and satisfaction by ensuring that client needs and expectations are achieved
Book and potentially host client media tours
Attend and co-lead client meetings and presentations
Able to lead client calls without an AD or VP Communicate with key client contacts, including answering questions or requests and discussing strategy without having to seek approval/advice from account lead
Coordinate and potentially staff press trips
Account Management
Write and edit pitches, press kit collateral and other documents
In some cases, responsible for preparing conference call agendas
Contribute and often lead annual PR plans and timelines in advance of expiration and renew/update throughout the year
Contribute creative campaign suggestions and share new ideas
Delegate resources effectively and track team performance
Responsible for developing and managing junior team members, while also managing up when appropriate
Effectively keep track of hours, deadlines, upcoming initiatives, workflow Meet with account team members regularly to review account priorities and challenges
Leadership
Hold team members accountable for results and performance
Coach, encourage and motivate junior team members
Feel empowered in a leadership role to guide account direction
Agency Wide Responsibilities
Participate in training and development workshops, monthly companywide meetings, account team meetings, monthly practice team meetings and ongoing agency brainstorming sessions
As needed, participate in, and prepare for, new business meetings In some cases, research, identify and contact potential new business prospects
Interview potential candidates when needed
