DESCRIPTION:

The successful candidate will have a deep affinity for the art and objects we sell, a proven track record of success with high-quality media placements, and a solid network of editorial contacts in mainstream news, luxury, shelter and art trade media outlets. Understanding of the global art market a must; auction world experience a plus.

To be considered for this assignment, the candidate must be a highly articulate self-starter who anticipates the needs of journalists and knows instinctively what makes a good news story. Must have equal facility with pitching stories for print, broadcast and online outlets, and a proven ability to plan both short and long-lead campaigns. This role works cross-functionally within the company, supporting internal departments as well as working directly with external clients on campaigns.

The successful candidate should have a strong background in communications strategy and media relations. Must show an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at one time, and deal with urgent issues in a responsive, professional and thorough manner. Strong critical thinking, research, and organizational skills are mandatory. Demonstrated understanding of the global art market and timely issues within the news cycle necessary.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to

-Work in collaboration with department heads, specialists and marketing teams to develop and execute effective media campaigns in support of sales activities.

- Campaigns vary in subject matter, length, and geographic focus.

- Develop and drive trend- and data-based collecting stories and create strategic plans for building the media profiles of key specialists and executives.

- Develop clear messaging on behalf of assigned departments regarding sales, trends, and the market, and and oversee media training of specialists where needed.

- Manage and coordinate press previews, interviews, sale events, post-sale press briefings, and speaking opportunities on behalf of key spokespeople.

This is a temporary consulting role with the possibility to apply for a permanent position.

The Candidate

- An undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, public relations or equivalent field, with at least five (5) years of proven success in media relations and corporate PR.

- Must be able to commit to 4 month assignment and on-site, full-time presence.

- Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills, strong organizational and project management skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach required.

- Commercially aware with a clear sense of business priority.

- Must enjoy working in a fast-paced, creative environment with multiple projects at once.

- Familiarity with media database and analytics/measurement systems and ability to learn Christie's proprietary systems required.

Physical Requirements:

- Role is remote currently with scheduled on-site work at Christie's in Rockefeller Center, in accordance with all COVID-19 guidelines

- No expected travel required.

- Ability to work seasonal Evening sales required; must be willing to be reachable after hours
