The Innovation and Growth organization at General Motors is home to the company’s connected services including OnStar, in-vehicle apps, technology integrations with Apple, Google, Amazon and others, and serves as an incubator for new business units and services like GM Defense and OnStar Guardian. In this role you’ll develop and implement a comprehensive Communications strategy that connects to GM’s vision of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion and plan launch activities for the next new business to grow from within this exciting space where a start-up mentality meets the scale and expertise of General Motors. You’ll act as a strategic partner to the executives in this space, coordinating and supporting external media interviews, GM owned channel and social content, and speaking opportunities. You’ll manage internal relationships with marketing colleagues on an integrated go-to-market strategy and with engineers and business leaders to lead the storytelling around an exciting new growth area.

Responsibilities:

Lead GM into the future of mobility space with a comprehensive, multi-year and faceted strategic Communications plan, working across the enterprise

Lead the Communications strategy for a new business unit launching in 2021, including the development of press materials, social and GM owned channel content and live/virtual media and influencer activities

Work in an integrated manner with marketing colleagues to develop compelling written and visual content to be used across earned and owned media channels

Form a collaborative working relationship with the manager of advanced technology and GM Brand as well as internal communications colleagues to drive GM’s reputation.

Manage executive and business partner relationships with grace

Bring a competitive-minded approach to a competitive and fast-moving growth space within the industry

Develop executive visibility plans and manage speaking / interview engagements for key executives

Work with GM Brand and Advanced Technology Communications teams to contribute to key GM corporate narratives including electrification, safety, and citizenship.

Support major company events and news moments including media announcements, conferences and trade shows

Demonstrate strong media relations and story-telling skills

Lead a team of three highly capable employees and influence others through projects, announcements and events

Requirements:

Required: BA in communications or related field. Minimum of 7 years of professional experience.
