The role of Senior Manager of PR & Communications is an experienced media and influencer professional that will lead Herman Miller Retail’s PR and Communications across brands: Herman Miller, Design Within Reach and HAY. Partnering with other Marketing leads, as well as departments in the organization, to develop and deliver strategies for executing on the business goals of the company, this role will manage public relations, our agency relationship and oversee our events and partnerships. 

Responsibilities include: 

-Drive public relations, strategies and structure to manage communication and positioning for the Herman Miller Retail brand: Herman Miller, Design Within Reach and HAY. 

-Work with executive leadership, marketing, cross-functional partners to align the PR calendar with business goals and create campaigns to advance the individual brand’s vision, mission, strategy, and culture. 

-Manage agency relationship for the retail brands. 

-Cultivate and maintain relationships with media, editors, designers and influencers to optimize our position in the industry marketplace, increase brand awareness, drive customer acquisition and brand affinity.  

-Be the voice of the brands to the industry and press, while working with editorial partners to craft tone and content.

- Ensure that each brand's visual identity, corporate message, voice, tone and style are consistent through all communications. Amplify go-to-market strategies. 

-Evaluate public appearances and speaking opportunities for leadership (including HAY) globally. 

-In partnership with marketing, develop events and partnerships from strategy through execution to drive brand awareness and affinity. Expand audience reach and engagement at the local, national and global levels. 

-In partnership with marketing and social leadership, define and pursue influencer relationships across brands that elevate brand equity and awareness. Define KPI’s for each relationship, with a focus primarily on product integration. 

-Collaborate with HAY DK on HAY Global PR needs that complement the North American exposure for the brand, new product launches, experience and initiatives.  

-Lend expertise and guidance on planning and communications for HAY initiatives that apply to both North America and Global. Evaluate HAY media partnership opportunities globally.   

-Drive process and content excellence in all external communications. 

-Measure ROI of all communications initiatives, creating an ongoing dashboard for the brands.  

-Monitor news announcements, media coverage, marketplace trends, and developments across the industry. 

-Manage archive of critical press clippings.  

-Formulate brand stories, collaborating closely with executive leadership, marketing and social leads. 

-Partner with corporate PR team on crisis management issues. 

-Execute trends analysis, both from competitors and retail industry overall. 

-Manage budget for PR, events and partnerships. 

-Align across the teams within the organization to inform PR strategy and communications efforts. 


-Demonstrated experience developing PR strategy and communications 

-Ability to balance strategic vision and tactical execution 

-High degree of creativity, flexibility, energy and enthusiasm 

-Adept at managing multiple projects and deadlines 

-Strong communicator, oral and written, with comfort developing and presenting ideas 

-Excellent planning, organizational and project management skills
