A public relations firm specializing in visual arts, design, and architecture seeks a full-time Senior Account Director to join its Visual Arts team.
We are searching for an organized, experienced, results- and detail-oriented public relations professional to lead the day-to-day efforts to support our clients in the visual arts field, including museums, foundations, galleries, and art fairs. Candidates should have extensive experience in contemporary art, preferably from both the nonprofit and commercial sectors. Established media relationships in the field are also essential. Outstanding writing skills and polished interpersonal skills are key. Candidates must be able to think creatively and quickly, and be comfortable with facilitating interaction in social environments. Foreign language skills are a plus. Five to seven years of artworld experience and team management experience is required.
Responsibilities include:
- Contributing to communications strategies for clients
- Acting as a day-to-day contact for client leadership
- Overall management of team with Senior Account Director
- Sustaining and fostering professional relationships in the visual arts community
- Actively cultivating new business and other beneficial relationships
- Collaborating with the Visual Arts team to develop and edit new business proposals, event proposals, and press materials including press releases, pitches, media alerts, fact sheets, image selections, remarks, and presentations
- Developing and/or directing special events, such as panels, receptions, press previews, and press trips
- Reviewing agendas for client meetings, calls, and reports
- Working with our digital content division to advise clients on digital content and social media strategies
- Database supervision
- Actively soliciting new business
- Representing Blue Medium at art world events
- Contributing to the overall financial health and welfare of the agency
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in communications, journalism or art history
- Proficiency in Google Drive suite, AirTable, or similar database platforms
- Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills
- An energetic team leader and self-starter
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Solid understanding of social media tools and platforms
- Strong understanding and network in the art world
- Deep knowledge of media outlets covering visual arts, culture and lifestyle
- Availability to attend client events after hours as required
- Willingness to work both from our Chelsea office (2-3 days per week) and from home (hybrid)
