TCPR is seeking an Account Director with a minimum of eight years of experience to join its New York team and lead key client relationships in the home & design space. This role will shape strategy and oversee integrated communications programs across media relations, thought leadership, reputation management, awards, influencer marketing, brand partnerships, affiliate PR, events, and trade relations. You ’ll be trusted to drive the big picture, own brand messaging, secure high-impact storytelling opportunities, and mentor junior and mid-level team members across multiple accounts. This position will report to a vice president.

An ideal candidate will have previous experience and a personal interest in the interiors, home & design, architecture, and lifestyle industries (or adjacent categories) and bring a positive, proactive, solution-oriented, and collaborative mindset. They should be driven by team and client success, and excited to grow with the company.

Roles and Responsibilities

Client Management & Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as senior strategic lead on client accounts, owning the overall health, direction, and performance of each initiative
  • Develop creative and strategic communication strategies to appropriately position a range of home & design and lifestyle brands, as well as interior design and architecture firms in the media
  • Drive messaging and storytelling across accounts, shaping brand narratives, and executive visibility
  • Ensure the team is tracking toward KPIs and deliverables, translating client feedback into actionable next steps and results
  • Oversee management of timelines, scopes, and priorities across workstreams to ensure seamless planning and execution
  • Provide ongoing strategic counsel rooted in both immediate opportunities and long-term business vision
  • Champion quality, creativity, and strategic alignment across all workstreams and touchpoints, while streamlining processes and maximizing efficiencies
  • Lead and manage team in New York, ensuring structure, clarity, and accountability of day-to-day execution across accounts
  • Mentor and empower junior and mid- to senior-level team members, while working in close collaboration with a VP
  • Review and elevate work across all deliverables, including strategy documents, press materials, client reports, and outreach
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture rooted in clarity, communication, and shared success, providing consistent feedback and mentorship, and identifying opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Set clear expectations for performance and delivery, and hold team members accountable for quality, deadlines, and strategic alignment

Media Relations

  • Lead the development and execution of media outreach strategies, including planning, messaging frameworks, and pitch angles
  • Retain a network of senior-level media contacts across print and digital categories, as well as Substack writers to ensure successful placements on behalf of clients
  • Secure top-tier media opportunities, including brand/founder profiles and feature stories in home and design, fashion, luxury, lifestyle, consumer, trade and business outlets
  • Review, elevate, and approve all press materials – press releases, messaging, pitches, etc. – and other client-facing materials, such as agendas, status reports, PR recaps, clipbooks, etc.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with influencers and content creators that support sustained visibility and growth

Influencer + Trade Relations

  • Oversee influencer, designer, and trade engagement strategies across client accounts, fostering relationships on behalf of both clients and the agency through an integrated, ongoing approach
  • Guide execution tied to specific campaigns, events, and brand goals, ensuring efforts are aligned with broader communications strategy and storytelling
  • Identify and vet new influencer, brand partnership, and trade opportunities, including events, sponsorships, and activations, while staying attuned to emerging voices, platforms, and industry shifts
  • Lead teams in outreach, execution, and reporting across partnerships, providing clear guidance and ensuring consistency
  • Draft, review, and approve briefs, negotiate deliverables, and approve agreements, ensuring creative alignment, audience fit, and measurable value to ensure and maximize ROI
  • Maintain and grow relationships with influential designers, content creators, and industry leaders on behalf of the client and the industry at large

Events

  • Develop and lead event strategies that support client goals and drive visibility across consumer and trade audiences
  • Represent both clients and TCPR at key industry events and trade shows, building relationships and identifying opportunities
  • Oversee planning and execution for previews, launches, and special activations, guiding the team, liaising with clients, and ensuring alignment with broader communications strategies and goals
  • Shape event messaging, format, and guest strategy in collaboration with clients and team

Affiliate PR

  • Drive affiliate PR strategy in partnership with internal team, identifying opportunities to secure commerce-driven editorial coverage
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with affiliate editors, writers, and commerce teams across key publications
  • Evaluate affiliate platform performance, commission structures, and partner programs to ensure PR compatibility and long-term success
  • Provide strategic recommendations to increase affiliate-based visibility and support revenue-driving media coverage

Networking & Business Development

  • Liaise with senior leadership on new business efforts, including participation in initial conversations, proposal development, and onboarding
  • Participate in brainstorms and select new business pitches, contributing to TCPR’ s growth through standout work, industry relationships, and visibility
  • Leverage relationships and participate in networking activities to build TCPR’ s network of media, influencers, and industry contacts
  • Serve as a senior ambassador, helping shape TCPR’ s reputation through creative work and results
REQUIREMENTS:
  • B.S/B.A in Public Relations/Communications or related field
  • Minimum eight years of relevant PR agency experience, ideally with a focus on design, lifestyle, and adjacent industries
  • Strong senior-level relationships within the home/design, lifestyle, fashion, accessories, lifestyle, consumer, trade, and business outlets (specifically news/market/features editors and directors) on a national and regional level, in print and digital categories
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and possesses an interest in growing the agency ’ s client roster with a focus on new business procurement and support
  • Exceptional interpersonal, networking, and verbal and written communications skills; positive, proactive, can-do attitude, with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
  • Creative, efficient, detail-oriented, and organized
  • Solution-oriented with the ability to think critically and strategically
  • Proactive with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a collaborative yet fast-paced environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of PR databases/tools such as Cision, PR Newswire/Businesswire
