Miami Design District commenced Miami Art Week with the reveal of The Sleep of Reason, a new exhibition of works from the Craig Robins Collection. Art and design world luminaries, international tastemakers and notable guests joined Craig Robins, CEO of Dacra, at the Buick Building in the heart of the Miami Design District to celebrate.
The Craig Robins Collection comprises over 1,500 pieces of contemporary art and innovative design, and is exhibited at the Dacra headquarters in the Miami Design District. The 2024-2025 rehang of the Collection, The Sleep of Reason, is based on Francisco de Goya’s El sueño de la razón produce monstruos, part of his major print series, Los Caprichos. This fundamental work anchors a double presentation of works by Kai Althoff (German, born 1966) and Jana Euler (German, born 1982), two artists whose drawings, paintings and sculptures engage with abject imagery, often presenting delirious or complex emotional landscapes. Other highlights on display include recent acquisitions by Jill Mulleady, Mario Ayala, Karon Davis, Bony Ramirez, Richard Tuttle, and Alteronce Gumby. Overall, more than three hundred works on view at Dacra present an expansive overview of figurative art from the last three decades, in tandem with Conceptualist masterpieces, as well as design pieces by established favorites such as Jean Prouvé, Zaha Hadid, Ron Arad, Marc Newson, Maarten Baas and Samuel Ross.
As a prelude to Miami’s bustling art season, the opening reception granted guests an exclusive preview of works by some of the world’s most celebrated artists, spanning two floors of the Buick Building. Following the reception, guests gathered with Craig Robins for an intimate dinner at Mother Wolf.
Notable guests included Alteronce Gumby, Andre Branch, Bony Ramirez, David Grutman, Devon Turnball, Jackie Soffer, Jeffrey Deith, Jennifer Roberts, Jewel, Josué Thomas, JR, Karolina Kurkova, Mario Ayala, Mathieu and Emmanuelle Le Bozec, Monica Kalpakian, Oti Roberts, Tina Brehon, Shareef Malnik and Gabrielle Anwar, Tschabalala Self, Walid and Susie Wahab, and Yves Behar.
