In celebration of Women’s History Month, Wynwood’s Art of Hip Hop honored three staples of Miami’s Hip Hop airwaves, Lucy Lopez (formerly Power96), Supa Cindy (99 Jamz), and Sitchiz (103.5 The Beat), for their contributions to Miami’s music and Hip Hop culture. Da-Venya Armstrong of Armstrong Creative Consulting supported the event by presenting the three women with original portraits by leading female local artists Tierra Armstrong, Nico, and Didi Contreras. The Office of the Mayor of Miami-Dade County also presented the women with Proclamations in honor of their contributions. The ceremony was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Allison Freidin, co-founder of Art of Hip Hop. Guests were able to mingle and celebrate these matriarchs of the community while enjoying craft cocktails served by Bartaco. The Art of Hip Hop is Wynwood’s hottest new interactive exhibition that shines a light on the photographers, album cover artists, fashion designers, logo designers, and graffiti artists who have worked mainly behind the scenes to shape the Hip Hop we know and love.
