Friends gathered at Southern Guild’s new Melrose Hill location to celebrate the gallery’s Los Angeles debut.
For their inaugural presentations, Southern Guild opened two exhibitions: MotherTongues, a group exhibition featuring the work of 26 artists from the African continent, and a solo show by sculptor Zizipho Poswa, Indyebo Yakwantu (BlackBounty), highlighting five enormous ceramic pieces, overlaid with materials imbued with deep history of African rituals - jewelry, beadwork, hair combs and pins.
Guests enjoyed exploring the exhibitions while sipping on glasses of white and red, provided by the gallery’s partner, IBest Wines, a revolutionary brand blending wine, art and culture, spotlighting the rich and dynamic tapestry of South Africa in every bottle. Founded by wine negotiant and art collector Ingrid Best, IBest Wines uses the finest grapes from the region’s best vineyards.
Mother Tongues and Indyebo Yakwantu (Black Bounty) will remain on view through April 27, 2024.
