Frieze Los Angeles 2024 commenced with an opening celebration at Getty Villa in Los Angeles. Frieze Americas Director Christine Messineo and Getty President and CEO Katherine E. Fleming provided remarks welcoming artists, museum leaders and collectors to the fifth edition of Frieze Week Los Angeles. Prior to their remarks, David Adrian Freeland Jr. and Daphne Fernberger from L.A. Dance Project performed an excerpt of “Be Here Now,” choreographed by Benjamin Millepied with music by Andy Akiho.
In attendance were major arts and institutional figures including Frieze CEO Simon Fox, Frieze Americas Director Christine Messineo, Getty President and CEO Katherine E. Fleming, Art Production Fund Executive Director Casey Fremont, California African American Museum Visual Arts Curator Essence Harden, J. Paul Getty Museum Director Timothy Potts, MOCA Director Johanna Burton, MoMA PS1 Director Connie Butler, LUMA Foundation President Maja Hoffmann, Studio Museum Director Thelma Golden, LACMA CEO and Director Michael Govan, and Columbus Museum of Art Executive Director and CEO Brooke A.
