"Gimme a whisky, ginger ale on the side, and don't be stingy, baby!” Such are the immortal words of silent film star Greta Garbo in her first speaking role. GARBO TALKS is now open at Galerie56 in TriBeCa. Part homage, part celebration, and part Modernist retrospective, the exhibit features more than 50 pieces inspired by Greta Garbo’s iconic work, affinity for Scandinavian design, and secret passion for designing rugs——now available for discerning collectors.
Co-curated by acclaimed designer and Galerie56 owner Lee F. Mindel, and prominent Swedish gallerist Paul Jackson of Jackson Design Gallery, GARBO TALKS will be on view through January 22, 2024. Works on display include a rug Garbo designed for her Sutton Place apartment, as well as pieces from Josef Frank; Philip Johnson; Carl Hörvik; Frits Henningsen; Richard Kelly; Jean Royère; and many more.
