The first gala in Sotheby’s history – the inaugural Sotheby’s Impact Gala – featured highlights such as a private performance by Anitta (which drew dancing from guests including Leibovitz) and raised funds for the crucial climate change intervention work of the Brazilian nonprofit Instituto Terra. The evening celebrated the photography and environmental advocacy of Sebastião Salgado (b. 1944, Brazil), whose work is in museum collections including MoMA.
Event co-chair Annie Leibovitz, Sotheby’s CEO Charles F. Stewart, Benefit Committee member Anitta, the fashion designer Francisco Costa, and The Strokes’ Fabrizio Moretti were among more than 200 guests in attendance at the sold-out event.
