Luxury British accessories brand Bottletop, unveiled an exclusive collaboration with celebrated artist, Wangechi Mutu called BOTTLETOP x AFRICA’S OUT! Bottletop and Wangechi Mutu first worked together on ‘Full Circle’, Bottletop’s flagship contemporary art program in support of the Bottletop Foundation in 2011. They established a mutual appreciation for each other’s work and had been discussing a collaboration ever since. With the creation and launch of Africa’s Out! by Wangechi Mutu, an initiative empowering the LGBTI community in East Africa, it was the perfect moment to launch the partnership in support of this important and courageous cause.
The partnership with Wangechi Mutu is the first collaboration in a new Bottletop"Art On Canvas" collection. Bottletop created six limited edition styles featuring artwork by Wangechi Mutu Mutu, with a percentage of the proceeds benefitting, Africa's Out! The concept behind the collection reflects a desire to share and re-purpose high art, making it wearable and enabling the consumer to participate in the ultimate journey of each piece as it travels the world; adopting a new vocabulary and aesthetic as it is worn, loved and marked in it's own unique way. The Africa's Out! Butterfly is hand screen printed in gold on canvas, and embodies the transformation of Africa through radical creativity, and the opening up of a new space. Each piece is created in a special limited edition of 100 and comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist.
